After graduating high school, I started as a CNC operator in a foundry in Iowa. I quickly learned that was not what I wanted to do with my life. The first couple years of college, I worked full-time in the foundry in the evenings and attended classes at the University of Northern Iowa during the day. I landed my first accounting job in 2017, a few weeks before I graduated with my Bachelors in Accounting. This first job taught me so much about accounting. I was the only accountant and had to learn HR processes and filing sales tax. After 4 years, I felt like I had learned everything I could there. I wanted more for my career, so I went back to school at the Upper Iowa University to get my Master's in Business Administration with an Accounting Emphasis.

Once graduating with my MBA, I started working as an Accounting Manager at a local convention center. Within a few months I was promoted to their Director of Finance. I learned so much as a Director of Finance about forecasting, budgeting, filing sales tax in multiple states, and event-based profit and loss statements. Being a Director of Finance in the event industry has been my favorite job. I have loved calculating the timing of when expenses and revenue need to be recognized. This also requires detailed balance sheets that track expenses and ticket revenue for months before the event revenue is earned.

Being a Director of Finance gave me the confidence that I needed to start my own business. I learned to manage multiple sets of venue financials while meeting reporting deadlines to each client.
